Regular attendance and consistent participation are important to student success. Academy of Better Learning recognizes that students have different academic, behavioral, developmental, and individual needs. Therefore, attendance and participation expectations may be individualized when appropriate.
Students are expected to attend school as scheduled and participate consistently in their educational program. When appropriate and approved by the school, a student's educational program may include learning completed outside the traditional school setting.
Absences
When a student will be absent, a parent or guardian must notify the school as soon as reasonably possible and provide the reason for the absence.
The school will determine whether an absence is excused or unexcused based on the circumstances and information provided.
Failure to notify the school may result in the absence being recorded as unexcused.
Attendance and Participation
Because ABLE provides individualized educational programming, attendance may include consideration of both physical attendance and participation in an approved educational plan.
Alternative attendance or learning arrangements must be approved by the school and should not be considered an automatic work-from-home option.
Students and families are expected to maintain regular communication with the school and comply with the student's established attendance and participation expectations.
Excessive or Unexcused Absences
A pattern of excessive absences, repeated unexcused absences, lack of participation, or failure to maintain communication with the school may result in:
Continued enrollment is dependent upon the student and family meeting the attendance, participation, and communication expectations established by the school.
Individual Student Needs
ABLE reserves the right to establish or modify attendance and participation expectations based on an individual student's educational, behavioral, developmental, or other documented needs.
Alternative arrangements may be made when the school determines that they are appropriate for the student's educational program.
Family Responsibility
Parents and guardians are responsible for ensuring that their child meets the attendance and participation expectations established by the school and for communicating promptly regarding absences or circumstances affecting attendance.
Attendance decisions will be made by the school in accordance with the student's educational needs, school policies, applicable law, and scholarship requirements.
